CHURCH FARM

BOXWORTH

When we were approached by our clients to assist with the full refurbishment of this grade II star listed farmhouse, it was clear that it was to be a labour of love on their part. The clients were keen to preserve this outstanding farmhouse, particularly as the village has no conservation area. The brief was clear but also extensive: to transform a tired building and its surrounding land and outbuildings into a thriving family home. We were also to introduce modern comforts such as a large new open plan kitchen / dining area and a new swimming pool while retaining the character of the building.

This important and sizable refurbishment project also boasts several sustainable credentials: ground source heat pump, solar panels, new double glazed windows in keeping with the property and the addition of internal insulation. Internally, the new hall with full height staircase completely transformed the experience of walking into the house.

Snell David's input and work through the planning process was critical to achieve the transformation of the building that the clients were keen to see. The roof space was converted and dormer windows added. The addition of symmetrical side extensions and contemporary rear flat roof extensions allowed the client to increase the floor area while having minimal visual impact on the rear elevation. The setting out of the pool area, vegetable garden and greenhouse were also part of our contribution to the scheme and as part of the work a new barn like building was designed to house the garage and pool house
